3 Most Important Supplements

I feel the following three supplements are the most vital to someone who wants to add muscle to their physique. Believe me, I realize that there are many more supplements on the market. Some of them do have a definite purpose, however, for someone who is just getting started or doesn't have a lot of extra money to spend, I feel these three would be your best choice.

Also, keep in mind that while supplements do have their place in an athlete's regimen, they are secondary to a well-balanced nutritional program. Supplements are meant to supplement your diet, not replace whole foods.

Multi-Vitamin Mineral
This supplement is fairly self-explanatory. Our bodies need all the correct nutrients in order to function properly, and if our bodies lack certain nutrients we will not function as efficiently as we could. As a result, if we have the correct amounts of vitamins and minerals in our system, we will be able to put on muscle more easily.

Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs)
BCAAs consist of three amino acids - valine, leucine and isoleucine. Together the BCAAs make up 1/3 of muscle protein. Studies show that exercise uses up more leucine than any other amino acid. BCAAs are most appropriately take immediately after a hard workout to speed up recovery.

Protein Powder (Blend)
Protein comprises 80% of the body's muscle and is what our body uses for building muscle. Therefore, if you want to increase muscle mass it is vital that you are providing your body with sufficient amounts of protein.  Using a protein powder that is a blend instead of one that comes from a single source allows your body to have a constant flow of protein.  Each source of protein is broken down and absorbed by our bodies at a different rate.  Therefore, it is much better to derive your protein from many sources (i.e. a protein blend).

Note: Before embarking on any nutrition, supplementation, and/or training program, consult with your physician or other licensed health-care professional.
