Keeping Hydrated in the Summer
Heat
One important factor to surviving the
heat and keeping your workouts intense and productive is to make certain you
stay properly hydrated. Don't make the mistake of not drinking enough water. Not
only will your weight drop, but more importantly, you run the risk of cramping.
Don't wait until you are thirsty to drink - stay ahead of the game by drinking
at least 1-2 gallons a day. Water is far better than the sugar-laden carbohydrate drinks
which will actually add to dehydration. So save your money and drink plain old
water. You do need to keep your electrolytes in balance by supplementing your
diet with a good vitamin/mineral supplement.
Keep these things in mind year-round, but especially in the heat and humidity
of the summer months.
Note: Before embarking on any
nutrition, supplementation, and/or training program, consult with your physician
or other licensed health-care professional.
