May 2001
With the 2001 NPC Mike
Francois Classic just behind us, I thought it would be appropriate to
talk briefly about competing - in particular, motivating those who have
not yet gained the courage to compete. By competing, you truly
find out how good you are and where you stand in relation to other
athletes. Deciding to compete is also a great motivational
tool. I receive many e-mails asking how to get motivated.
There are many tools to help motivate, but there is no better tool than
getting on stage. Competing is a learning experience. You
not only learn about your body, but also your mind. This is the
only way to make improvements. Don't be intimidated or scared to
compete. In every contest, there are others who are competing for
the first time. If you have ever thought about competing, do
it! Write a contest on your schedule and get started today.
It is a truly satisfying experience - one you will not
regret.
Good luck to everyone and
keep training hard!

Until next month, train hard and stay
